Late Night UberEats Order Canceled on Me, Here's How I Got Paid Anyway...

So I never end up doing gig work during the late night hours but the other day I found myself working on my computer late, unable to sleep. If anyone knows me as a gig worker, if I am awake, I am probably at LEAST online.

That said, I ended up getting a few orders during a late Sunday night that made me some money, made me think about some things about how some restaurants ACTUALLY work and almost cost me some money.

So in this video, We are talking about:

  • What happened during these late night orders that almost cost me money

  • What they were saying vs How it ACTUALLY is

  • How I got paid anyway

  • Everything in between!

Late Night Gig Work

So the other night, I was getting some stuff done in the evening on my computer for my website and preparing for the next day, because I knew the Monday coming up was going to be JAM PACKED with appointment, emails and documents to send to attorneys other important work that I needed to get done for my website, drivenwyld.com.

Hidden tips on UberEats at it's finest but a win is a win.

That said, at about 11:30 at night, I ended up getting a decent order from McDonalds for $11.83 and while I normally wouldn’t go out that late, especially to McDonalds, this area didn’t have the insane drive-thru problem most have, and frankly I had a lot of energy that I wasn’t going to sleep off.

So I took the order, got in my car and picked up the order. It was super simple, the lobby was closed and I ended up discovering that McDonalds has a new verification system on UberEats, and yes, it has been that long since I have picked up McDonalds from UberEats.

That said, I left McDonald’s and dropped off the order at a home I used to drop off to quite often when I still picked up First Watch orders. So easy enough to find.

The Canceled Order Itself

I was on my way back and got another order from Wingstop, which I didn’t realize was open past midnight but I am also not surprised.

Regardless, I went over there and it said as clear as day Open Past Midnight, and the hours were posted to close at 1am. That said, what I noticed was interesting. They had a garbage can RIGHT in front of the door, like someone was going to take it out but forgot something inside so they ran back in.

In any case, I opened the door and I noticed the staff was just chatting amongst each other. Like they were cleaning up after a long day… which checks out but I gave them the name and of course they said “oh someone picked up that order already.”

Can't say I didn't have the order canceled...

Shocker…

That said, what was curious to me wasn’t the restaurant staff chatting amongst themselves or them cleaning up after a long day, but how it seems like they were almost done cleaning up…

It almost looked like they were ready to leave already and all of the equipment was down.

Did they mentally check out? Are some of these staff members just not doing the work anymore tonight so they are just SAYING that the order was picked up already instead of actually preparing it?

I have seen places just choose not to make an order simply because it was an order from Doordash or UberEats, in fact some people have said that and then panic-make food when they realized it was a mobile order.

Which just makes perfect sense, but I can’t expect the wrong people to do the right thing so we proceeded to contact support to have the order canceled.

Dealing with Support

Dealing with support is always annoying and I was especially tired at this point, like the wind was taken out of my sales and now I am at the point of just wanting to get the work done for today and go home.

Uber Activity Feed showing a $10 adjustment for support, dated Sep 8, 12:13 AM. Includes a unique adjustment code. Dark interface.
Got another "One-time Courtesy" as usual.

Uber Support, of course doesn’t take calls until you deal with their little chatbot system and say “something else” enough times to allow you to call Uber.

Finally get someone on the phone and get an agent, explain to him that I need the order canceled and to receive the cancellation fee, and they cancel the order and give me some nonsense about not giving me the fee.

At this point, I have done this enough times to just accept their scripted nonsense in stride, and immediately asked for a supervisor, took very little time to make my point and get my cancellation fee so I was happy about that.

Gotta say though, I think it is so funny how they always claim it is a “one time courtesy”. That one time has been pretty consistent, I will tell you what.

Final Thoughts

Look, when it comes to making money on UberEats or any platform, don’t learn from the platform itself or their “support” agents. Learn from other gig workers who are on the grind with you, I make these videos and other social media posts talking about this stuff all the time.

Not only that, I started another channel Gone Wyld Clips and Podcast, where I take the Livestream Budsoda and I hold on Thursday Nights at 9pm EST and cut them down to more digestible clips and have them posted there.

Even if you don’t want to follow me, because I am a mouthy little s*** with obviously wrong opinions in your mind so you would rather listen to anyone else, there are a ton of other GigTubers and content creators out there.

So watch their content and learn from them so you don’t get screwed by companies or restaurants that want to get one over on you and let them cost you money.

Learn from those who have walked the path before you, not those who would benefit from you walking their path.

If you would like to add some other perspective to Late Night Deliveries, Cancelations and Fees, or just you take on the full situation, feel free to email me: drivenwyld@gmail.com and who knows? Maybe your email or perspective and be featured in a post as well!
