Shop and Deliver Ratings on Doordash - EVERYTHING You MUST Know!!

So recently I have been emailed from one of my subscribers on my YouTube Channel, SmilezforMilez thank you so much for emailing me about this and making this video possible!

It turns out Doordash is working on a Shop and Deliver Rating system, which is separate from the normal rating system for the most part, because why not right?

So in this article, We are talking about:

  • Everything You Must Know about the Shop and Deliver Rating System on Doordash

  • How it ACTUALLY is for drivers

  • Everything in between!

Disclaimer: The content of this article does not contain and is never intended to be legal, business, financial, tax, or health advice of any kind, This article is for entertainment purposes only. It is advised that you conduct your own research and consult with qualified professionals before applying anything you find online.

I also want to be clear that everything we are going over in this video is very market dependent and what applies to me in my market may not apply to you.

SmilezforMilez: Hello, Here is the latest information I have found about the DoorDash app. They recently updated. The update added a Shop and Deliver Rating scale. Just like the general rating scale. Another way for Shady customers to get free stuff by claiming it arrived damaged. This happened to me. Shop for a customer. Delivering Popsicles. They claimed the item was damaged.  Which was a lie. Just to get free groceries.

So it is no surprise to be honest. Doordash is always testing out different pilot programs and crappy customers are always looking for different ways to scam the system. But it seems this is either in the early pilot stages or very well hidden, because I cannot find the help page for this for the life of me.

So since we cannot go over the help page we don’t have, let’s go over the image I have:

So what we are being rated on goes as follows:

  • Original Items Found

  • Total Items Found

  • Substitution Issues

  • Items with Quality issues

  • Items that were wrong or missing

  • Lifetime shopping orders

This isn’t the first time that item substitutions were questioned, but quality issues seem like a first to me. I checked my Instacart account for this and it wasn’t even there, an app that is dedicated to shopping orders.

I can already imagine how someone can use AI to change the expiration date in a photo and claim that “they received expired milk” and then immediately use it for whatever they are cooking.

Reddit Riot

Let’s hear from some of the more eloquent and expert level people on this: Reddit😏

It really isn’t and if they are basing it on that we should be able to get the items that aren’t in stock. That is something that we shouldn’t be held responsible for which is why I believe if they are going to rate us on this it should be for our reference and not theirs.

Example of this would be:

  • These stores give you the most headache for item replacements

  • These types of items are a problem area for this store

  • How many times another driver found the item after you claimed it wasn’t there etc.

Otherwise, what are they going to do? Expect us to run the back end logistics of it all? Because fuck that!

Some markets are actually testing out the concept of Dasher Delivery Preferences, and a new program on this is released every year.

It probably will, Doordash has a pretty bad M.O. when it comes to this stuff and it can get pretty bad at that point. Sometimes it isn’t even the driver's fault, it is just the customer being scammy and looking for a refund, so I am concerned about that as well.

Item Quality Rating Hot Take

Honestly, on a conceptual level this is a decent rating. I remember all the times I had to pick out produce to find an onion on something and some of them were just horrible, like I couldn’t find one decent looking onion.

Not to mention how some of those boxes are just beaten up and just left on the shelf, or taped up because it fell apart.

In practice though, this falls under the same category of not having the item available. It isn’t the drivers fault if the only onions available look like they have been sitting there waiting to not be bought.

It is not the driver's fault that the last box of Advil looks like it picked a fight with tylenol and lost.

Drivers need to be rated on things they can 100% control or not at all.

Developing a No-Go List

Some places are going to just suck in terms of quality and having the necessary products in store. Some pharmacies just have problems like that, where they are always out of a certain brand so you have to replace an item, or they won’t let you for legal purposes.

So that will just continuously hit your ratings when it is unnecessary.

Priority Shoppers

For those shoppers that prioritize shopping on the platform, they will notice greater fluctuations in this because they are dealing with it more. That said, we don’t know what the rolling basis of this will look like.

Like I said, I normally pull from help pages but that isn’t happening here because they don’t have any yet. It is a little too soon to say how this can truly affect shoppers because this seems to be in the early pilot phases.

Doordash M.O.

While we can’t assume what is in store for shoppers, we have to remember Doordash’s M.O., Doordash only adds ratings like this if there is a way to control you as a driver and if they can find a way to punish you, they will. Even if you are not at fault.

People have been deactivated for less. People have lost pay for less.

Future Contract Violations?

If they are willing to develop a system of ratings for this type of work, you better believe that new types of contract violations are possible too.

What would that look like for us? I don’t know and it is too soon to say without seeing help pages or anything, but don’t put it past them.

If you would like to add some other perspective to how Shop and Deliver Ratings work on Doordash, feel free to email me: drivenwyld@gmail.com and who knows? Maybe your email or perspective and be featured in a post as well!
