UberEats is SCAMMING Drivers Through Ratings! Here’s What Happened…

So while I do my own gig work, sometimes I end up having issues with the orders and therefore have to contact support and have the orders canceled. In this case, it got completely out of hand. It has also made me think about some stuff I have been contemplating for a while.

So in this article, We are talking about:

  • The Insanity that took place during a recent order I had

  • How Uber is Gaslighting their Drivers

  • Everything in between!

The Order Itself

So while on my way back from a catering order I ended up getting an UberEats order, I received an order from Chick-Fil-A and got to see some of the features that they rolled out such as the order completed notification.

That said, Chick-Fil-A is also very well known for their consistent fraud against gig workers as well. So while I was picking up the order, I told them I was picking up for Val S, which they tried to make me confirm the order before even handing it to me!

This isn't an abnormal type of fraud for this company and this company actively violates the contract between Chick-Fil-A and the 3rd party apps. This is why I am a firm believer that we can have a class action lawsuit on our hands against a lot of these restaurants.

Them choosing to violate the contract and with the way these 3rd party apps have been committing fraud on their end with how the ratings work, they are inching ever so close to misclassification and fraud.

That said, I called support to have them reported and things didn’t quite go well this time around.

Dealing with Support

I contacted support to update them on the fraud that has taken place. They reported the restaurant rather quickly but they would not pay the cancellation fee. The Uber Support Agent was rather callous and rude the entire time and would not transfer me to a supervisor.

It also seems like they won’t allow us to rate our support agents anymore so the only ones taking the brunt of the fraud are the drivers.

I fought through 5 support agents just to get the cancellation fee but here is the problem. This still affects my cancellation rate.

Out of this 8% Cancelation rate, only 3 times have I had unassigned myself. The other 5 are due to the fraud by Uber Technologies Inc.

You see, Uber has been committing fraud for quite some time claiming that orders that are canceled outside of the control of the driver are not going to affect your ratings. Truth is though, not only has it been affecting our ratings, it has affected our status on many fronts.

How can we work with an app like Uber and utilize the rewards systems if we are held accountable for when the restaurant commits fraud?

This isn’t just when the restaurant is committing fraud either, for all the times I had to have an order canceled recently, it has affected my ratings.

I have also contacted many supervisors and all of them give me a copy and paste response to the issue at hand, which shows that they not only choose not to take action for what they did, they are damn well shameless about it.

This will lead to wrongful and illegal deactivations and Uber doesn’t care and they will commit fraud with pride.

Doordash vs UberEats

Recently, Uber sued Doordash claiming they are partaking in anti-competitive business practices.

In the complaint, Uber alleges that DoorDash, the largest provider of restaurant delivery services in the United States, has "devised and is engaged in an unlawful scheme to stifle competition with Uber Eats," making it difficult and expensive for restaurants to partner with more than one delivery service and allowing the delivery giant to charge customers higher fees for "lower-quality service."

I have already made a video talking all about this already, I will leave that in the description feel free to check that out.

That said, in practice and in reality the truth is this: Doordash may have played some stupid games with smaller companies but in terms of who can ACTUALLY win this case, Doordash will WIPE the floor with Uber any day of the week.

Claiming Doordash has a lower quality service than Uber is laughable. They are actively committing and supporting fraud from the restaurants side of things, while also screwing the customers on their end.

Doordash is no saint by any means but Uber is a janky system riddled with fraud and illegal activity and borders on a class action against them in the near future for various reasons.

Not only does Uber display that they have no case but I believe it is safe to assume based on the desperation taking place here that they may be going under soon.

Moving Forward

Honestly, this is not a good sign for the gig economy. I am not someone who would want to see them fall to be honest, because I think the competition for our services is good, but it shows that a new company needs to step in sooner rather than later.

A change needs to take place in the gig economy to where people who want to make more money on the platforms can, and if executed properly can save restaurants on high fees from these companies.

Rather than depending on Doordash and UberEats to do right by their restaurants, customers and drivers, which they are proven to not do.
